Prabowo: Some Indonesians Hope the Nation Collapses

Jakarta, VIVA – President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has highlighted the prevalence of negative narratives about Indonesia’s condition circulating on social media.

Prabowo claimed there are parties who continue to depict Indonesia as being in a dire situation, even hoping for the country’s failure, when in fact Indonesia has simultaneously recorded a series of strategic achievements.

He made the remarks during the official launch of the B50 biodiesel programme at the KM 57 Rest Area in Cikampek, Karawang Regency, West Java, on Thursday, 9 July 2026.

Prabowo initially reminded Indonesians to abandon the culture of envy and undermining one another, as the world today is rife with competition between nations.

“Envy, spite, wanting to bring others down, wanting to humiliate our own brothers, our own colleagues, our own nation. Yet this world is full of competition,” he asserted.

Prabowo said that amid global competition, many countries, in his view, do not want Indonesia to advance further. For that reason, he urged the public not to take part in weakening their own nation.

“Many countries envy us, many countries hate us. We never hate anyone, but in reality many are spiteful and envious, wanting to harm us and smear our name,” he said.

Prabowo then touched on the various narratives circulating widely on social media, such as claims that Indonesia is in chaos, in a dire state, and on the brink of ruin.

“The campaign on social media: Indonesia is in chaos, Indonesia is bleak, Indonesia is dark, it will collapse, it will collapse. They hope for a collapse — imagine that, Indonesians themselves hoping for a collapse, my brothers and sisters,” he said.

Prabowo urged the public to be wary of such narratives and not to be easily swayed by information that could weaken the nation’s optimism.

“So we must remain vigilant. That is why I deliberately attended today — this is a day of pride that will be remembered, and it has already opened the world’s eyes,” he stated.

According to Prabowo, the launch of B50 biodiesel is one piece of evidence that Indonesia is capable of delivering breakthroughs that command the world’s attention.

He admitted he was surprised that a number of international figures have begun discussing Indonesia’s success in maintaining energy stability and protecting its people amid global dynamics.
