President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia’s first president, Soekarno, belongs to the entire nation, not just one political party.

“Actually, I have learned a lot from Soekarno’s teachings. Soekarno does not belong to one party, Soekarno belongs to the entire Indonesian nation,” said Prabowo in Nganjuk, East Java, on Saturday.

Prabowo said that he has studied Soekarno’s teachings and understands the thoughts of the founding fathers.

In addition to Soekarno, he also mentioned Mohammad Hatta and Sutan Sjahrir as national figures who belong to all Indonesian people.

According to him, Indonesia can become a strong and advanced country if it can unite the strength of all elements of the nation.

“Many regions are at war, Indonesia is free and active. A thousand friends are too few, one enemy is too many. We respect everyone,” he said.

He said that the government is implementing a policy of good neighbourliness, including improving relations with a number of neighbouring countries.

“Alhamdulillah, there are not so many conflicts in Natuna anymore,” he said.

In addition, Indonesia’s relations with Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Australia, and Thailand are also said to be good.

According to him, the leader of Fiji was touched by the welcome given by Indonesia to the country with a population of around one million people.

Prabowo said that respecting guests and appreciating all parties is part of Indonesian culture and the teachings inherited from national figures.

“That is Indonesia, that we respect our teachings, the teachings of our religious leaders, the teachings of our parents are to respect parents, respect teachers, respect guests. That is what we are taught, that is Indonesian culture,” said Prabowo.
