Prabowo Slams 'Shameless Guests': They Come Here to Trade, Then End Up Robbing Us!

President Prabowo Subianto has taken a swipe at guests from other countries who come to Indonesia, stating that they arrive without good intentions and ultimately commit robbery. He made the remarks while attending the peak celebration of the 79th National Cooperative Day at the Indonesia Arena, Gelora Bung Karno, on Sunday, 12 July 2026. Initially, Prabowo remarked that Indonesia is a nation of kind-hearted people. Every guest who arrives is welcomed warmly. “We are a nation that is too kind-hearted, we are naive, right? That is our nature,” said Prabowo. “If a guest comes to our house, even if we don’t have a drink, don’t have coffee, don’t have sugar, we invite them in. If necessary, we go to the neighbour to borrow sugar. Right? That is our nature,” he continued. However, Prabowo noted that sometimes there are guests who are shameless. He claimed that some guests come to Indonesia uninvited and commit robbery, though he did not disclose who these guests were. “We like guests. We respect guests. But sometimes there are guests who are shameless. They were not invited, they come here, they say they want to trade, but eventually they rob us,” he explained.
