President Prabowo Subianto has advised students of Sekolah Rakyat to remain undeterred when facing mockery or unpleasant treatment from others. He noted that being mocked is a common experience for anyone, including a president.

Prabowo delivered this message while inspecting Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Pertama (SRMP) 17 Tabanan, Bali, on Sunday (7/6/2026). During a dialogue with the students, Prabowo addressed a student named Gede Bagus, who had previously been a target of ridicule.

“What was your name earlier? Bagus, right? Gede Bagus? You were mocked? It is alright. Do not be afraid of being mocked. I am also often mocked. Even now, I am still mocked. Even a President is mocked. It is fine,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo stated that an individual should not lose self-confidence simply because of disparaging remarks from others. He urged the students to remain steadfast and to respond to ill-treatment with good character.

“What matters is that your heart is firm. Our hearts must be good. If we are mocked, respond with politeness. The more we are insulted, the firmer we must be. The more courageous, the more polite. Even when insulted, remain polite. Do not be disheartened,” he said.

On this occasion, Prabowo also noted that many successful individuals originate from families living in economic hardship, yet they managed to change their destinies because they refused to give up in the face of difficulty.

“Many people who succeed come from very poor families. There are many. But those children did not want to give up. They did not despair. They remained joyful,” he said.

He encouraged the Sekolah Rakyat students to continue studying with discipline, to respect their teachers, and to honour their parents who work hard for their future.

“Study, study, and study well. Respect your teachers. Love your parents. Always be harmonious with your friends. Always be kind to others. Maintain your manners,” Prabowo urged.

According to Prabowo, education is one of the primary keys to increasing public welfare. Consequently, the government is striving to expand educational access for underprivileged groups through the Sekolah Rakyat programme.

He also reminded the students to remain optimistic when facing various life challenges.

“In the midst of difficulty, look for the good things. Goodness will surely come. We must believe in that,” said Prabowo.
