Prabowo shares habit of tracking world news into early hours

During a discussion with several experts and senior journalists in his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, a video recording of which was aired on Thursday (March 19), Prabowo described himself as a “news junkie” who continuously follows the flow of global information.

“We are already news junkies. We are affected by it,” he said.

The statement was made in response to a question from political analyst Rizal Malarangeng regarding how a leader maintains balance amid fast-moving and highly pressured global dynamics, including in terms of rest.

Prabowo stressed that he still considers sleep important, although he has a flexible rest pattern. He said he can sleep anywhere and at any time.

“This may be knowledge I gained in the military. For me, for example, when I am in a car I can sleep, in a helicopter I can sleep, and on an airplane I can sleep,” he said.

He also said he uses short breaks between activities to rest. He cited attending two or three meetings, during which he always sets aside 10 to 30 minutes between engagements to take a brief rest.

On the other hand, his habit as a news junkie often leads him to wake up in the early hours to follow global developments through digital platforms.

“Sometimes I sleep at one in the morning, but at three I wake again. Why? Technology. There is YouTube. We are four hours behind the Middle East and many hours behind the United States, so I must follow developments closely daily,” he said.

Prabowo said the habit is important to allow him to respond swiftly to various global developments affecting Indonesia.
