Prabowo sets target for 288,000 schools to be repaired by 2028
While reviewing facilities at Cilacap 1 State High School on Wednesday, Prabowo announced plans to complete repairs on 70,000 schools this year, after completing repairs on 17,000 in 2025.
“Next year, my target is to reach more than 100,000 (schools). I hope all schools will be completed by 2028,” he remarked.
According to him, Indonesia has approximately 288,000 schools spread across the country. With a total of 87,000 schools expected to have their repairs completed by the end of the year, approximately 200,000 schools remain.
“If we achieve 100,000 in 2027, 100,000 in 2028, all Indonesian schools will have been repaired,” he pointed out.
Prabowo said the plan goes beyond upgrading school buildings, extending to quality improvements such as ensuring every classroom is equipped with digital or smart boards.
Currently, each school only has one digital screen, with only a few having two.
“Right now, there’s only one per school. Some have two. Our target is to distribute three to four units per school. This year, we are working towards three more across Indonesia,” he ensured.
The measure is expected to enhance interactivity in teaching and learning and provide easier access to a digital syllabus, simplifying learning activities for teachers and students.
These improvements and upgrades are necessary, considering that education is key to the nation’s revival, he said.
He emphasized that the government will invest heavily in education for the nation’s future.
“Every Indonesian child must receive the best education,” he noted.
On that occasion, he mentioned seeing the results of the renovation of seven classrooms and eight bathroom facilities at Cilacap 1 State High School. The president also chatted with students who expressed their appreciation for the Free Nutritional Meal Program (MBG).
