Prabowo Sets Maximum 8% Commission for Ride-Hailing Apps, Drivers to Receive 92%
President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the plight of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers in his speech marking International Labour Day (May Day) 2026. He assessed that the commission rate, previously around 20% deducted by app companies, does not reflect fairness.
Citing detikFinance, Prabowo firmly stated his disagreement and requested that ojol commissions be reduced below 10%. He viewed it as unjust for companies to reap large profits while ojol drivers toil hard in the field.
“Ojol drivers work hard, risking their lives every day. Ojol app companies demand a 20% deposit. How can ojol agree to 20%? What about 15%? How much?? 10%, you’re asking for 10%? I say here that I do not agree with 10%,” Prabowo emphasised at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Friday (1/5/2026).
Prabowo stressed that company profits must not be disproportionate to the drivers’ efforts in the field. Therefore, the government is pushing for adjustments to revenue sharing that favour workers more.
“It must be below 10%. It’s too easy—you sweat, they get the money, sorry about that. If you don’t want to follow, don’t bother operating in Indonesia,” Prabowo added.
To that end, Prabowo has signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 27 of 2026 on the Protection of Online Transport Workers. The regulation includes several provisions, such as BPJS Health coverage and work accident guarantees.
Through this Perpres, the government also regulates income sharing between drivers and app companies, changing from the previous 80%-20% to 92%-8%.
“What I mentioned earlier, they must be given work accident guarantees, will be given BPJS health, health insurance. Also, the revenue sharing from 80% for drivers now becomes a minimum of 92% for drivers,” Prabowo concluded.
