Prabowo Sets Fishermen's Fuel Price at Rp 15,000 per Litre

President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that the price of fuel oil for fishermen or fishery business operators with vessels sized between 30 and 200 gross tonnage (GT) be set at Rp 15,000 per litre. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto disclosed this following a limited meeting with President Prabowo and several economic ministers at Prabowo’s private residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, on Monday, 13 July 2026. Airlangga explained that the President issued the directive after reviewing the development of fuel prices used by fishermen. “The President’s directive, because we see the B50 price specifically for fishermen under 30 GT has been provided at Rp 6,800, while the non-subsidised fuel price recently surged to Rp 21,300,” Airlangga said, as quoted from a press statement by the Indonesian Government Communication Agency on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. Therefore, the government decided to provide a special price for fishermen with vessels of 30 GT to 200 GT capacity. “These fishing entrepreneurs need to be given a special price. It was discussed that the agreed price is Rp 15,000 per litre. Meanwhile, the non-subsidised fuel price based on the average domestic diesel production cost is capped at Rp 18,600,” he said. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will soon issue regulations related to the policy. Airlangga explained that the subsidy of approximately Rp 3,600 per litre will be financed using funds from the Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP). Thus, this policy does not burden the state revenue and expenditure budget (APBN). “Therefore, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (Bahlil Lahadalia) will issue regulations related to the subsidy. The subsidy amount is approximately Rp 3,600 per litre and will be financed by BPDP,” Airlangga stated. In addition, the government has set a distribution quota for the special fuel for the next six months. “For this policy, a quota of 400,000 tonnes has also been set for the next six months,” Airlangga said. On the same occasion, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia claimed this policy is a form of certainty provided by the government to fishery sector operators so they can run their businesses with more affordable operational costs. “Indeed, the price is very high now. With the price of Rp 15,000, it is hoped to assist the operations of fishermen with vessels sized 30 GT and above,” Bahlil said. Bahlil also confirmed that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will immediately follow up on the President’s directive by issuing a decree. Meanwhile, to ensure targeted distribution, he will coordinate with Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono to determine distribution points. “So that the government’s good intentions to help fishermen are not misused. This is what we will safeguard so that its implementation runs well, and of course, everything is under the direction and command of the President,” Bahlil said.
