TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to close the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress at the Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java, on Monday, August 31, 2026. “It will be closed by the President,” said the chair of the local committee of the 35th NU Congress, Abdurrozaq Sholeh, as quoted by NU Online’s YouTube channel on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

He said Prabowo will attend the closing around 10:00 a.m. at the multipurpose hall. According to Sholeh, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya has confirmed Prabowo’s presence at the closing ceremony.

Previously, Prabowo also opened the 35th NU Congress on Thursday, August 27, 2026. According to Sholah, Prabowo was impressed when welcomed by thousands of congress attendees. “The attendees were very respectful to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. So he was very impressed with the reception from the congress attendees,” Sholah said.

During the opening ceremony of the congress, Prabowo addressed the issue of corruption in his speech. The Gerindra Party chair mentioned that corruption in Indonesia has caused a significant loss of national wealth.

“We must be brave in eradicating corruption because it is corruption that has caused a loss of much of our wealth, taken abroad,” Prabowo said in his address broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya conveyed that the President’s presence at the NU Congress is a form of respect for the great role of Nahdlatul Ulama, which for more than a century has been one of the important forces in the journey of the Indonesian nation.

“The President holds great respect for the contribution of the ulema, kiai, santri, and the entire large family of Nahdlatul Ulama to the nation and country,” said Teddy.
