Prabowo Selects Destry as Sole Candidate for BI Governor, Purbaya Responds
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has spoken out regarding the sole nomination of Destry Damayanti as Governor of Bank Indonesia by President Prabowo Subianto.
Purbaya said he is already quite close with Destry and has worked together since he served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS).
When he was Chairman of the LPS Board of Commissioners, Destry, who served as Senior Deputy Governor of BI, worked alongside him as an Ex-Officio Member of the Board of Commissioners from BI.
“Well, it’s good. She has considerable experience, and in my experience we are quite close. When I was Chairman of the LPS Board of Commissioners, she was an ex-officio member from the central bank,” Purbaya said at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/8/2026).
According to Purbaya, with the long-established cooperation, close coordination between fiscal and monetary authorities can continue to be sustainable.
“So I think it’s good. We usually coordinate and cooperate well. So there is no problem,” Purbaya said.
As is known, Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is preparing to schedule a fit and proper test for the sole candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), Destry Damayanti, after the DPR recess period ends.
This fit and proper test is one of the prerequisites before Destry’s confirmation as BI Governor. This process is carried out after the Head of State submits the proposed name of the BI governor candidate to the DPR through a presidential letter.
Deputy Chairman of Commission XI of the DPR RI, Muhammad Hanif Dhakiri, said his party will immediately coordinate with commission leaders to determine the timing of the fit and proper test.
“Once it has been submitted, the fit and proper test can proceed immediately. I will coordinate first with fellow leaders regarding the schedule,” Hanif told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/8/2026).
