Prabowo Selects Destry as Sole Candidate for BI Governor, Here's Why

President Prabowo Subianto has officially proposed Destry Damayanti as the sole candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI). The government stated that her track record and extensive experience in the financial sector were the main reasons behind the appointment.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said Destry possesses strong competence to lead the central bank. In addition to a decades-long career in economics and finance, Destry has also served two terms as Senior Deputy Governor of BI.

Her experience at Bank Indonesia was a primary consideration for the government in submitting her name to the House of Representatives (DPR).

In addition to proposing Destry as the definitive BI Governor, the government has also submitted names for the positions of Senior Deputy Governor and Deputy Governor of BI to the DPR. This follows a reshuffle in the central bank’s leadership ranks.

Several names have been circulating, including two current BI Deputy Governors, Aida Budiman and Solikin, who are reportedly in the running for the Senior Deputy Governor position. However, Prasetyo declined to reveal the identities of the proposed candidates, stating that an official announcement will be made by the DPR as the institution responsible for conducting the fit and proper test.
