Prabowo Secures Rp 574 Trillion Investment Commitments from Japan and South Korea
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto has revealed the latest outcomes from President Prabowo Subianto’s visits to Japan and South Korea. The Head of State’s presence in both countries has resulted in investment commitments worth Rp 574 trillion.
Airlangga stated that this figure is highly significant. “Because Indonesia, in this uncertain geopolitical situation, remains attractive to investors from both Japan and South Korea,” he said while providing a statement from Seoul, South Korea, as quoted via the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube on 2 April 2026.
The former Minister of Industry detailed a series of investment commitments from the series of visits. First, from South Korea, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth US$10.2 billion or Rp 173 trillion has been signed. The investment sectors include energy and green transition, solar power, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and renewable energy.
There are also industry and manufacturing sectors, such as steel, batteries, green transit and transportation. Then the digital and AI sector, property, and infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the government’s visit to Japan has resulted in an MoU worth US$23.6 billion or Rp 401 trillion. The targeted investment sectors are energy and energy transition, oil and gas—particularly the Masela project—industry and downstreaming, up to finance and financial inclusion. As well as creative industries and manufacturing. “This means that the President’s visits to both countries have resulted in investment commitments of Rp 574 trillion,” Airlangga said.
Japan ranks third in investments and trade, while South Korea is in seventh place. According to Airlangga, both countries are very hopeful that with the existence of a Sovereign Wealth Fund like Danantara, Indonesia can also engage in joint investments as a co-investor.
Airlangga Hartarto accompanied Prabowo Subianto on the official visit to Japan, which began on Sunday, 29 March 2026. The series of visits continued to Seoul, South Korea.
