Prabowo Scheduled to Visit Russia in the Near Future
President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to visit Russia in the near future. The plan for the official trip was announced by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. “There is such a plan,” said Teddy at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday night, 10 April 2026.
Teddy did not reveal when Prabowo would travel to the country of President Vladimir Putin. He stated that official information would be provided in due course. “The confirmation will surely be announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tomorrow regarding which confirmed countries the President will visit,” he said.
Teddy also did not provide details on Prabowo’s agenda in Russia. He only mentioned that there would be several discussions on cooperation in the energy sector, particularly regarding oil fuels.
He said the planned discussions are similar to those during the Gerindra Party Chairman’s visit to Japan at the end of last month. “For example, the President just returned from Japan yesterday, and perhaps the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources has already conveyed it, there is an agreement related to oil with Japan,” he explained.
President Prabowo previously responded to criticisms that he frequently travels abroad. According to the former defence minister, his overseas official activities aim to anticipate fluctuations in global oil prices.
According to Prabowo, a head of state has the responsibility to meet various development targets. He stated that it is not an easy task. “So, brothers and sisters, do not think that standing here is an easy job,” said Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
He conveyed that those who want to become president must be prepared to face that reality. “Those who want to become president, congratulations, really. I’ve already become one, so I have to work hard. There are no holidays for me,” he said, having participated in the presidential election four times before being elected.
Prabowo then addressed the perceptions from others that he considered different from the reality. “They say Prabowo is travelling abroad. Brothers and sisters, to secure oil, we have to go everywhere,” he stated.
He gave an example of his most recent foreign visit to Japan at the end of March 2026. At that time, Prabowo said he also sought various investment cooperation opportunities for Indonesia.
Prabowo stated he would travel abroad again soon. However, he declined to reveal the next destination. Prabowo claimed that the planned official trip also aims to secure Indonesia’s interests.
Since being inaugurated as president in October 2024, or one and a half years in office, Prabowo has made at least 35 trips abroad. Most recently, he visited Japan and South Korea from the end of March to early April 2026.
