Prabowo Scheduled to Open Indonesian Muslim Congress Today

Deputy Chairman of MUI and head of the Steering Committee for the eighth Indonesian Muslim Congress (KUII VIII), KH Marsudi Syuhud, said that President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to open KUII VIII on Friday (24/7) afternoon.

The five-yearly forum, initiated by MUI, will serve as a major consolidation event for around 87 Islamic organisations across Indonesia. It will be held over three days, from 24 to 26 July 2026, at the Bidakara Hotel in Jakarta.

“The event will be opened by the President on 24 July at around 4pm Western Indonesia Time,” said Kiai Marsudi, quoted from MUI’s official website on Thursday (23/7).

Kiai Marsudi said that after the opening by Prabowo, the event would continue with a series of plenary sessions.

The KUII is a mandate of the organisation to be held at least once every five years.

As the great house of Indonesian Muslims, MUI bears a moral and organisational responsibility to facilitate this grand deliberation.

He stressed that KUII VIII is not merely a ceremonial gathering of prominent figures. The forum is designed as a space for critical and strategic dialogue to contribute concrete ideas to the government.

Besides Prabowo, he said the three-day series of plenary sessions will feature a line-up of cabinet ministers, leaders of state institutions, law enforcement officials and academics from various disciplines.

“Nation-building is a necessity. So criticism is normal if, during this congress later, there are inputs for the government,” he said.

Kiai Marsudi expressed hope that the deliberations of KUII VIII would make a concrete contribution to the nation’s resilience in facing the challenges of the times.

“The aim is for the welfare of the nation and its people,” he said.
