Prabowo Scheduled to Lead Pancasila Day Ceremony
President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to serve as the inspecting officer for the national Pancasila Day ceremony today, Monday, 1 June 2026. The event will take place at the Gedung Pancasila Field, Jalan Taman Pejambon, Jakarta, commencing at 10:00 WIB. ‘President of the Republic of Indonesia will attend in person and act as inspecting officer,’ said Head of the State Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) Yudian Wahyudi in Jakarta on Friday, 29 May 2026. The 2026 Pancasila Day commemoration carries the theme ‘Pancasila: Unifier of the Nation, Foundation for World Peace’, underscoring the relevance of Pancasila in preserving national unity and contributing to global peace. ‘The emblem used this year is our national symbol, the Garuda Pancasila,’ Yudian added. BPIP has invited all former presidents and vice presidents to attend today’s ceremony. Former President Megawati Soekarnoputri, who also serves as Chair of BPIP’s Steering Council, is expected to attend. Djarot Syaiful Hidayat, Chairman of the Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), indicated Megawati will accept the invitation. ‘Insya Allah she will attend, please pray for her to have the opportunity,’ Djarot said while attending a PDIP technical guidance session for regional legislative members in North Jakarta on Saturday, 30 May 2026. The former Jakarta governor added that PDIP will also hold a Pancasila Day ceremony at its party school in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta. Thus, Megawati’s participation will only be confirmed on the day itself. ‘PDIP will indeed hold the Pancasila Day ceremony at the party school on 1 June, so we’ll see tomorrow,’ Djarot stated. During last year’s Pancasila Day commemoration, President Prabowo Subianto and PDIP Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri both attended the event at the Pancasila Building, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta on Monday, 2 June 2025, with Prabowo serving as inspecting officer. The ceremony was also attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, late former Vice President Try Sutrisno, and former Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla (10th and 12th). Megawati stood between President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran before the ceremony commenced. Moments of camaraderie between Prabowo and Megawati were captured in the Gedung Pancasila waiting room, including when they sat at an oval table. Prabowo joked to Megawati, seated opposite him, to ease the atmosphere: ‘You’re looking a bit thin, Ma’am. Wow, impressive. You’re slim. Your diet’s working.’ Megawati appeared to agree, replying, ‘Yes, the slimming diet.’
