Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto expressed his concern over the murder of labour activist Marsinah and stated that such an event should not have occurred if the values of Pancasila and the constitution were properly upheld.

“Indeed, the event of Marsinah being brutally murdered for fighting for factory workers should not have happened at all because our country was founded on the basic philosophy of Pancasila, which is the brilliance of our founding fathers,” said Prabowo in his speech at the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, Saturday.

The President, as monitored from the YouTube broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta, said that Indonesia was founded on the philosophy of Pancasila, which is the basis for national unity amidst differences in ethnicity, religion, language, and race.

Prabowo said that Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution have affirmed the principle of social justice for all Indonesian people and placed the state as a system based on a spirit of kinship.

According to the President, this principle is also contained in Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, which states that the economy is organised based on the principle of kinship, so that the strong must help the weak.

The President said that workers, farmers, fishermen, state officials, soldiers, and police are part of the people who must be protected by the state. Prabowo also said that leaders, politicians, and bureaucrats only receive a mandate from the people to run the government.

The President expressed his gratitude that the event experienced by Marsinah occurred in the past and should be a lesson to improve the life of the nation and state.

“Especially for state officials, especially soldiers and police. State officials, soldiers, and police are selected, financed, and paid by the people, fed by the people, their shoes are bought by the people, their hats are bought by the people, their ranks are bought by the people. Therefore, if this basic principle of the state is thought about and understood, it should not happen. And thank God, this happened in the past, we will fix it,” said Prabowo.

On that occasion, the President said he was honoured to have the opportunity to designate Marsinah as a national hero after receiving a proposal from labour organisations that jointly nominated Marsinah.

On that occasion, the President also mentioned the existence of a mindset from some business actors who prioritise large profits by ignoring human values. According to him, this is not in accordance with the founding principles of the Republic of Indonesia.

The President invited entrepreneurs to build the spirit of Indonesia Incorporated, which is a concept of a family state, where all Indonesian people have the right to the nation’s wealth and leaders are responsible for fighting for the welfare of the community.

“Indonesia Incorporated actually means a family state, so all of this nation is one corporation, all of this nation means that all Indonesian people are shareholders in all of Indonesia’s wealth, all Indonesian people have the right to this wealth, and all leaders are responsible at every level to fight for this with all the strength and courage they have,” he said.
