Prabowo says 'Prabowonomics' not his personal idea, but rooted in 1945 Constitution

President Prabowo Subianto has stressed that the economic concept often referred to as ‘Prabowonomics’ is not his personal idea, but is instead grounded in the mandate of the 1945 Constitution. Speaking at the peak celebration of the 28th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB) in Jakarta on Thursday evening, Prabowo said he was touched by the party’s firm support for the government’s new economic direction. However, he considered the use of his name for the concept inappropriate. According to Prabowo, the economic policies being implemented by the government are not a new idea nor his personal property, but are based on the ideals of the nation’s founders as enshrined in Article 33 and Article 34 of the 1945 Constitution. ‘Frankly, it is not appropriate for you to use my name there. The firmness of my struggle, my belief, is my belief in the ideals of the nation’s founders, my belief in the Proclamation of 17 August 1945, my belief in the 1945 Constitution, especially Article 33 and Article 34,’ he said. Prabowo stated that the goal of independence was to ensure all Indonesian people live decently, questioning how this could be achieved if the nation’s wealth was continuously taken abroad. He also appreciated the way PKB showed its support, saying he felt honoured, but reiterated that even his own Gerindra Party would not use such branding because he would not permit it. ‘This is Pancasila economics, constitutional economics, and people’s economics,’ he added. The event was also attended by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, PKB Chairman Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, and leaders from Gerindra, Golkar, PAN, and the Democratic Party.
