Prabowo Says Indonesia Won't Rush to Join BoP, Having Already Discussed It with Gulf States
Jakarta, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia’s membership in the Board of Peace (BoP) was not a hasty decision, as long discussions with Gulf states had taken place regarding the plan.
Muhadjir Effendy, head of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership’s Economic, Business, and Halal Industry Sector, said that Prabowo conveyed this during a meeting with leaders of Islamic organisations, ulama, preachers, and pondok pesantrens at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 5 March 2026.
‘He explained his membership in BoP, or Indonesia’s membership in BoP. He emphasised that his involvement in BoP is not automatic,’ Muhadjir said after the meeting.
The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture said Indonesia’s involvement in BoP is a strategy prepared by Prabowo. The strategy is a form of Indonesia’s effort to build peace from within the strategic forum.
‘The strategy he (Prabowo) chose is what is described as strategy from within. So after being on the outside for so long, we are now trying to fight from within,’ he said.
‘And we remain committed to the original goal, namely the establishment of two states that coexist peacefully, i.e., a sovereign Palestine and Israel,’ Muhadjir added.
Therefore, Indonesia will continue to strive to create peace for Palestine regardless of the consequences. ‘Whatever the consequences, the endeavour to realise a sovereign Palestine must be achieved. And that is stated in the 20-point BoP agreement, points 19 and 20 clearly state that the BoP’s aim is indeed to see a sovereign Palestine coexisting with Israel. I think that is our basis,’ Muhadjir said.
