Prabowo Says Fishermen Are Very Important: The World Needs Fish and Protein

GORONTALO, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto considers fishermen to play a vital role as producers of protein sources for society. Therefore, the government aims to improve the welfare and income of fishermen in Indonesia.

“Fishermen produce protein and fish, which is very important. And the world now greatly needs fish and protein,” Prabowo stated while inspecting the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village in South Leato, Gorontalo, on Saturday (9/5/2026).

“This is a gift from the Almighty. We must be grateful; we are now investing on a large scale,” he said.

According to Prabowo, this year alone, the government will inaugurate 1,386 Merah Putih Fishermen’s Villages. Then, every year, an additional 1,000 Merah Putih Fishermen’s Villages will be added.

He emphasised that this is a major undertaking. Despite often facing mockery, he claims he will continue working for the people.

“We are on the right path. I want our fishermen to prosper. I want fishermen to smile every day because their income is good. Starting this year, we will build 1,582 fishing vessels. Later, we will help; we will distribute those vessels,” Prabowo added.
