Prabowo Says Export Proceeds from Palm Oil and Coal Are Not Kept in Indonesia
President Prabowo Subianto stated that the profits from exports of several commodities, including palm oil and coal, are not kept in Indonesia. According to detikFinance, Prabowo expressed his annoyance that the proceeds from Indonesia’s natural resources are leaking abroad. “Our palm oil is exported, but the export proceeds are not kept in Indonesia. Our coal is sold and exported, but the export proceeds are not kept in Indonesia. The sales of tin and gold—all the data is there, the facts are there,” Prabowo said at the Attorney General’s Office in South Jakarta on Wednesday (13/5/2026). “How can we live prosperously if our wealth is taken away every day? It flows out and does not stay in the Republic of Indonesia, my fellow citizens. Indonesia’s 287 million people cannot live well or prosperously if their wealth is taken away every day, every week, every month,” he continued. Prabowo stated that the government he leads will prevent the proceeds from the management of natural resources from leaking abroad. “This struggle is a noble and sacred one. We are on the right path. We are saving Indonesia’s future. We are saving our children and grandchildren,” said Prabowo. It is known that one of the government policies to prevent export proceeds from flying abroad is the Export Proceeds (DHE). Previously, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto conveyed that the regulations on export proceeds from natural resources (DHE SDA) are in the finalisation stage. “So, the revision and amendment to PP 36 has been finalised and will be implemented from 1 June 2026,” said Airlangga at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026). In these new regulations, the government requires exporters to store DHE SDA in the Consortium of State-Owned Banks (Himbara). There is also an obligation to convert to rupiah. “So, the change is that DHE SDA must enter Himbara and be converted to Rupiah up to a maximum of 50%. Also, for the extractive sector or oil and gas, it applies as it is now, namely the 3-month period,” said Airlangga.
