Prabowo Said to Want Universities to Produce Human Resources Aligned with National Needs
Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendikti Saintek) Brian Yuliarto has revealed that President Prabowo Subianto wants universities to produce human resources aligned with national needs. Brian stated that Prabowo also instructed that research and academic activities at campuses must align to support priority national work programmes. “So what does that mean? It means we hope the human resources produced are indeed suited to the needs of our nation,” Brian said when met at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology office in Central Jakarta on Saturday (2/5/2026). Brian places great hope in every research effort and innovation producing works needed by the nation. According to Brian, research relevant to the nation will benefit Indonesia in becoming a self-reliant country. He then cited the escalation of the war between Iran and the US-Israel, which has caused global energy shocks, rising oil prices, and inflation threats. “Our dependence is still significant. This is what the President requests, so all are expected to become the backbone for ideas, contributions in the form of research and innovation for all sectors,” he said. “It does not, rather they mutually reinforce each other. Because I am very confident that strong basic research, strong fundamental research, becomes the foundation for the birth of quality innovations,” he stated. He emphasised that all research will continue to be carried out according to their respective portions. “So the President’s direction is that the research results are relevant, yes, needed by our nation,” Brian said.
