Prabowo Sacrifices 8 Cattle in DIY, One Nearly a Ton
President Prabowo sacrificed eight cattle in the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) for this year’s Iduladha. One of the sacrificial cows, named Joni Anggoro, weighed nearly a ton and was priced at Rp85 million.
The Simmental or Swiss Fleckvieh breed came from Mustofa, a breeder in Mlati, Sleman, who has raised Joni since it was a calf until now, aged 3.5 years.
‘Its name is Joni Anggoro; I’ve raised it since it was a calf, now 3.5 years old,’ Mustofa said after the presidential cattle handover ceremony at the Kepatihan Complex in Jogja on Tuesday, 26 May 2026.
‘It’s a Swiss breed, so I wanted a foreign name, like Joni. But I combined it with Anggoro to include a Javanese name,’ he added.
Mustofa explained how Joni was selected as the presidential sacrificial cattle. Regular vaccinations at Sleman’s Puskeswan (veterinary clinic) led officials to notice the large animal.
‘When we vaccinated, the Puskeswan staff saw our cow was big. They asked, “Sir, would you like to register it as the presidential cow?” We were enthusiastic, excited, happy. We tried, and Alhamdulillah, it was selected,’ he said.
‘The weight a month ago was 891 kilograms. Now it’s probably over 900. I priced it at Rp85 million for President Prabowo,’ Mustofa added.
Joni Anggoro is one of eight cattle from President Prabowo Subianto handed over to DIY. Head of DIY’s Agriculture and Food Security Department, Aris Eko Nugroho, stated that eight presidential cattle were distributed to the regional government (Pemda DIY), city and regency governments (Pemkot, Pemkab), and the Yogyakarta Presidential Palace.
‘The province gets one, which was given to Sleman—the largest one, Joni. Then each city and regency gets one, and the Presidential Palace gets two,’ Aris said.
‘The central criteria are the heaviest cattle from each regency/city, but Jogja City doesn’t have any, so we took it from Bantul,’ he added.
Meanwhile, the Governor and Deputy Governor of DIY provided nine cattle for sacrifice, which were also distributed to regencies and cities.
‘The DIY regional government has nine cattle; two have been sent to Kulon Progo. Here, seven were ceremonially handed over, including to Pura (Pakualaman), the Kasultanan, and regencies/cities,’ Aris concluded.
