Prabowo Reveals Unexpected Economic Leakages Costing Indonesia Billions
President Prabowo Subianto has revealed a number of problems currently facing his administration that were beyond initial expectations. He disclosed these unexpected issues during a cabinet plenary session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (20/7/2026). “I myself, as president who was given a mandate together with our vice president, I honestly did not expect that some of these problems would be so far beyond our estimates,” Prabowo stated. He explained that the unforeseen problems relate to distortions or irregularities in the Indonesian economy, specifically the leakage of state wealth through various illegal practices. “A distortion has occurred in our economy. Our wealth has been flowing out significantly, thousands of trillions, hundreds of billions of dollars each year,” Prabowo said. “Through practices of under-invoicing, falsified reports, transfer pricing, smuggling, things that are truly unreasonable and fundamentally unfair to our nation,” he stressed. Consequently, Prabowo affirmed that under his leadership, the government will put a stop to these long-standing practices. “So, we are faced with a very large and vital problem. If we allow this, if the leakage of hundreds of billions of dollars of Indonesia’s wealth is allowed to continue flowing out, we can imagine what the fate of our nation will be,” he explained. On the occasion, Prabowo also claimed that the government has resolved nearly 110 state problems within a two-year period, although he did not provide specific details. “This is no small achievement. We are humble, we do not want to beat our chests, we must not and cannot be big-headed, we must not be arrogant. That is our character, the character of our nation, ‘ojo dumeh’,” Prabowo remarked. He also noted that other issues being seriously addressed by the government include inadequate teacher salaries, insufficient job opportunities, and persistent extreme poverty. “We understand that our teachers’ salaries are lacking, we understand that job opportunities are insufficient, we understand there is still extreme poverty. We understand these problems. This is precisely why we were elected and given the mandate to resolve them,” Prabowo stated.
