Prabowo Reveals Rationale for Indonesia's One-Stop Natural Resource Export Policy
President Prabowo Subianto stated that the government is restructuring natural resource management to ensure greater domestic benefits. One measure is implementing a one-stop export system for natural resources. He noted the country has abundant resources, but public benefits remain suboptimal.
“We must acknowledge that our wealth has long not been fully utilised for the people’s prosperity. For too long, part of the value added from our resources has been enjoyed abroad. For too long, our people have merely been spectators to their nation’s wealth,” Prabowo declared during the Pancasila Birthday Commemoration on Monday, 1 June 2026.
Prabowo explained Indonesia is a major global producer of strategic commodities. This position should serve as a key asset to enhance public welfare and strengthen national economic competitiveness.
“We are among the largest producers of critical minerals: copper, tin, gold, rare earths. We are also producers of palm oil, coal, nickel, and other vital agricultural commodities,” Prabowo said.
Amid rising global demand for industrial and technological raw materials, the government considers export control a critical step. The policy relates not only to trade but also to Indonesia’s position in the global supply chain.
“Therefore, the government has mandated a one-stop export system for natural resources. We must also make significant investments in industrialisation through downstreaming,” Prabowo stated.
Beyond strengthening domestic industry, the government aims to ensure export revenues significantly benefit the national economy. The move is expected to bolster economic resilience and reduce the outflow of economic benefits abroad.
“For too long, the prices of our natural wealth have been set by others, in foreign countries. For too long, part of the profits from natural resources have flowed overseas instead of remaining in the Motherland,” he added.
