Prabowo Reveals Outcomes of Talks with German President
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The accord was conveyed by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during a joint press statement at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (15/6/2026).
“First of all, I would like to welcome and thank President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for his return visit to Indonesia. This is a great honour for us. This state visit holds profound significance for Indonesia as it also demonstrates the excellent ties between Germany and Indonesia,” Prabowo stated.
According to the head of state, the visit is also an important milestone amidst an increasingly uncertain global dynamic. Strengthening and sustaining the Indonesia-Germany partnership is undoubtedly a priority. This visit, Prabowo continued, also kicks off the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Indonesia-Germany bilateral relations in the coming year of 2027.
The former defence minister disclosed that today’s meeting discussed the strengthening of the Indonesia-Germany partnership, particularly in the fields of economy, investment, energy transition, energy security, education, and employment. Both countries agreed to continuously increase mutually beneficial trade and investment volumes.
On that occasion, Prabowo stressed the importance of relations between Indonesia and Europe. Prabowo expressed hope that the Indonesia-European Union CEPA negotiations could reach a substantive conclusion.
“We hope Germany will continue to play an active role in the process of finalising the internal agreement in Europe so that it can soon deliver concrete benefits for businesses in both countries,” said Prabowo.
Cooperation between Indonesia and Germany, continued the Chairman of the Gerindra Party, is also being pursued through the CITA (Competitiveness, Industrial Modernisation and Trade Acceleration) programme. Indonesia also invited German partners to expand investment in key sectors in Indonesia.
“Examples are in the field of energy transition, in industrial downstreaming, in the vehicle sector as we move towards electric vehicles, and in the development of the semiconductor industry,” said Prabowo.
Furthermore, the head of state stated that Indonesia is also inviting Germany to participate in the critical minerals and rare earth metals supply chain within Indonesia’s infrastructure development. Additionally, Prabowo welcomed the Partnering in Business with Germany programme aimed at MSMEs.
“Indonesia will also host the second Joint Economic and Investment Committee this year,” said Prabowo.
In the field of healthcare workforce, Prabowo greatly appreciated the signing of a Letter of Intent regarding the Global Skills Partnership in nursing. Indonesia also wishes to expand job opportunities for Indonesian workers in Germany, including in the high-tech sector.
“President Steinmeier and I also concur that all conflicts must be resolved through negotiations, and we will cooperate in diplomacy to enhance and ensure global peace and stability,” said Prabowo.
“I firmly believe that Germany must play a more active and more important role because we need a good partnership with Germany and with Europe. This visit by the German President is a sign that this relationship is very important,” he continued.
