Prabowo Reveals Issues Uncovered Over 21 Months

President Prabowo Subianto did not expect the challenges facing his administration to be more severe than initial estimates. According to the Head of State, over the last 21 months the government has uncovered various issues, ranging from low teacher welfare, limited employment opportunities, extreme poverty, to economic inequality. “I myself, as President, as the one given the mandate together with the Vice President (Gibran Rakabuming Raka), we were sworn in, I myself truly did not anticipate how some of these problems were very much beyond our expectations,” said Prabowo during a briefing at the Plenary Cabinet Session at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, 20 July 2026. The Chairman of the Gerindra Party explained that one of the main issues relates to the significant leakage of state wealth every year. “A distortion has occurred in our economy. Our wealth has been flowing out significantly, thousands of trillions (of rupiah), hundreds of billions of dollars (United States) each year,” said Prabowo. According to Prabowo, this leakage is triggered by various illegal practices. For example, the practice of reporting export values below the actual price, known as under-invoicing, transfer pricing, and smuggling. Prabowo stated that these unfair practices have become a perennial problem. “Things that are truly unreasonable and actually unfair to our nation,” said Prabowo.
