Prabowo Returns to Jombang to Attend NU Congress Closing Ceremony
President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, departed for Jombang, East Java, today. Prabowo’s visit is intended to attend the closing ceremony of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress.
According to the Palace Press Bureau on Monday (31/08/2026), Prabowo and a limited delegation are scheduled to arrive at Juanda International Airport, Sidoarjo Regency, at approximately 09:30 WIB. Following this, Prabowo will continue his journey to the Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang Regency.
Prabowo’s presence is said to demonstrate respect for the significant role of NU as one of the major forces in the history of the Indonesian nation.
Accompanying Prabowo on his journey to East Java are the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Prabowo previously attended and opened the NU Congress held on Friday (27/08). In his address, Prabowo stated that Nahdlatul Ulama is a historic institution that has played a vital role in the nation’s struggle for independence.
It is noted that the 35th NU Congress has elected a new General Chairman of PBNU. KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, or Gus Kikin, has been elected as the General Chairman of PBNU for the 2026-2031 term.
“The members of the Ahlul Halil Wal Aqdi (AHWA) have decided by consensus to elect KH Abdul Hakim, commonly known as Gus Kikin, as the General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board for the 2026-2031 term,” said KH Anwar Iskandar while reading the plenary session results of the 35th NU Congress in Jombang, East Java, on Monday (31/08).
The election of Gus Kikin followed several processes during the congress. Initially, the delegates held a vote to shortlist the top five candidates for the PBNU General Chairmanship. From those results, Gus Kikin secured first place with 472 votes.
