Prabowo Returns to Jakarta via Nusantara Explorer Train
After completing a working visit in Central Java, President Prabowo Subianto returned to Jakarta using the Nusantara Explorer train from Batang Station, Batang Regency, on Thursday (30/7). This journey serves as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to developing railway-based tourism concepts, aimed at providing comfortable travel while showcasing Indonesia’s diverse cultural heritage.
The Nusantara Explorer, carrying President Prabowo and a limited entourage, departed at approximately 17:05 WIB. Previously, the President had also used the same train during his journey from Semarang to Batang Regency as part of his working itinerary.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the use of the Nusantara Explorer is part of President Prabowo’s directive to strengthen the national tourism industry by developing tourism services via rail transport. “In our efforts to increase tourism potential, the President wishes for us to develop railway-based tourism,” said Prasetyo, as quoted from a BPMI Setpres press release.
He explained that while PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) already possesses a business unit dedicated to providing tourist train services, President Prabowo has requested further development through the addition of new carriages that will be integrated with Indonesia’s top tourist destinations. “PT KAI already has a company specifically providing tourist train facilities. The President requested that this be strengthened; we will create new carriages that will be paired with our premier tourist destinations,” he continued.
He also revealed that the Nusantara Explorer used by the President is currently in a testing phase and has not yet been officially introduced to the public. Nevertheless, he expressed appreciation for the quality of the carriages, which are considered to meet international standards. “Today is still a trial as it has not been officially launched. From what we observed of the cabin interiors, we highly appreciate that PT KAI is now capable of producing world-class, international-standard railway carriages,” said Prasetyo.
Meanwhile, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon noted that the Nusantara Explorer holds great potential for national tourism development. He believes the train can offer a unique travel experience that attracts the public. “From the discussions earlier, it appears many people will be interested, perhaps even renting carriages for reunions, gatherings, or meetings. It is very unique,” said Fadli Zon.
The use of the Nusantara Explorer during President Prabowo’s official duties reflects a new direction for tourism transport in Indonesia, focusing not only on connectivity but also on offering a premium travel experience that carries Indonesian cultural value.
