Prabowo Responds to Trump's Joke About Not Wanting to Face Him
Washington — President Prabowo Subianto responded light-heartedly to a statement by United States President Donald Trump, who said he would not want to "go up against" the Indonesian leader.
When asked for his reaction to Trump's remarks at the Board of Peace (BoP) Gaza Summit at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington D.C. on Thursday, 19 February, Prabowo Subianto immediately laughed.
"Trump said he's afraid of you, Sir?" a journalist asked.
President Prabowo answered casually, "No, no, there's nothing like that," he said with a smile.
Earlier, at the Board of Peace forum in Washington D.C. on Thursday, 19 February, Trump openly praised the firmness and leadership of Indonesia's President Prabowo.
In his address before world leaders and national delegations, Trump described Prabowo Subianto as a tough and respected figure.
"He is a man I like very much. He is very tough. I would not want to go up against him," Trump said.
President Trump also highlighted the vast population of Indonesia under Prabowo's leadership. He admitted to being surprised upon learning that Indonesia's population numbers in the hundreds of millions.
According to Trump, leading a country as large as Indonesia is an enormous responsibility. He assessed that Prabowo was carrying out that duty well.
The praise was delivered in the context of discussions on the contributions of nations worldwide towards ceasefire efforts and sustainable peace in Gaza.
The forum emphasised the importance of genuine commitment from global leaders to achieve peace that is not merely temporary, but long-term and just.
