Prabowo Requests Pindad to Design More Open Presidential Vehicle
President Prabowo Subianto has revealed that he is considering a special vehicle design to facilitate easier interaction with the public during regional visits. This was stated by Prabowo during the inauguration of ,1061 Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperatives in Nganjuk, East Java. According to him, the enthusiasm of the crowds lining the streets during visits makes him reluctant to remain solely inside a closed vehicle.
“So many people come out to the streets, yet the President remains inside a vehicle. It wouldn’t be right,” said Prabowo, as quoted from a Presidential Secretariat YouTube broadcast on Monday (18/5/2026). “Our people want to shake hands, so why shouldn’t we shake hands?”
Consequently, Prabowo admitted he is contemplating a special vehicle that would allow him to remain visible to the public during working visits. He has even requested PT Pindad to prepare a design for such a vehicle. “I am currently thinking about asking Pindad to design a special vehicle for the President using glass, featuring seats but allowing me to be seen standing,” he said.
Currently, Prabowo utilises the MV3 Garuda Limousine presidential vehicle manufactured by PT Pindad. This vehicle is the latest development of the MV3 platform, designed as both a tactical vehicle and an official vehicle for the Head of State. In terms of dimensions, the MV3 Garuda Limousine is approximately 5 metres long and weighs nearly 3 tonnes. The vehicle is equipped with a 199 hp diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
