Prabowo Requests Ministry of Education to Involve Lecturers in Giant Sea Wall Project
Mendikti Saintek’s Brian Yuliarto met with President Prabowo Subianto in a limited meeting to discuss the Giant Sea Wall project at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. Brian stated that Prabowo requested the involvement of lecturers in the development of the project.
“The limited meeting was led by the President regarding the Giant Sea Wall. We from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology were asked to participate actively because the Giant Sea Wall is strategic in saving 60% of industrial areas and also more than 30 million residents. If this programme runs, it will at least be able to save those two aspects,” said Brian after the meeting at the Palace on Monday (20/4/2026).
Brian mentioned that there has been much research on the project at universities. According to him, further research is still needed to support the development of the Giant Sea Wall.
“There are many research outcomes from campuses, including trials, one of which has been successful in Demak, Semarang. We are asked to participate actively. So, the lecturers who have been conducting research at campuses that support the acceleration and make the development of the Giant Sea Wall more efficient are requested to get involved. Yes, for now,” he said.
Brian continued that his side will begin inviting professors from various universities who have expertise in such research. They will be involved in discussions on the project’s progress with the Head of the Sea Wall Authority, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Rear Admiral TNI (Ret.) Didit Herdiawan.
“Yes, so next week we will invite several professors who already have expertise and are involved in several cases for several projects, such as land creation, reclamation, and the like. We will invite them to meet with the Head of the Indonesian Sea Wall Authority,” he stated.
