Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf has stated that President Prabowo has requested the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to increase the capacity of Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools) in the capital city. The President hopes that DKI Jakarta can establish additional pilot schools capable of accommodating no fewer than 1,000 students. Saifullah explained that the implementation of these pilot schools will utilise government-owned buildings that have been declared fit for use by the Ministry of Public Works. To meet the capacity target, he confirmed that ten locations have been secured, with eight currently undergoing renovation, including buildings owned by the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN) in Pejompongan, Marunda, and Curug. The Minister added that the increase of a 1,000-student quota for Sekolah Rakyat is actually being implemented in every district and city, as the number of out-of-school children across Indonesia exceeds 4 million, with a significant portion residing in DKI Jakarta. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, who joined the inspection, attributed the higher ratio in the city to its dense population and the fact that it attracts both the wealthiest taxpayers and less fortunate individuals seeking better fortunes. He noted that the official census now records the city’s population at over 11 million.
