Prabowo Requests Custom Glass-Based Vehicle to Better Greet the Public

President Prabowo Subiability has requested PT Pindad (Persero) to develop a special presidential vehicle made with glass components so that he remains visible while greeting the public. Initially, Prabowo admitted to feeling fatigued from having to continuously stand through the sunroof of his vehicle to wave to and shake hands with citizens during regional visits.

“Because there are so many people by the roadside, is it appropriate for the President to remain hidden inside a vehicle? It wouldn’t be right. I am forced to stand, isn’t that true? If our people want to offer their hands, how can we not reciprocate? So, I try to shake their hands,” Prabowo stated during the inauguration of 1,061 Red and White Village/Sub-district Cooperatives in Nganjuk on Saturday (16/05/2026).

He expressed his understanding of the enthusiasm shown by the public, who often wait for hours under the scorching sun. Prabowo also joked that he requires special oil after shaking hands with so many people.

“But, oh dear, the people of East Java certainly have firm handshakes. It seems East Java has many farmers; even the women have firm hands. After two or three visits, I will need to use special oil. But that is the risk,” he said.

He expressed his desire for the vehicle to provide a seat for him, yet be designed in a way that makes it appear as though he is standing to greet the masses. Prabowo also touched upon his age of 75, noting that despite his age, he remains eager to meet the large crowds waiting for him.

“I am thinking of asking Pindad—where is Professor Sigit (Sigit P Santosa, President Director of Pindad)? Is Sigit here? He is not here. Try to design a special car for the President, using glass, where there is a seat but I appear to be standing. Is that possible? I am already 75 years old, but I feel for the people who wait for a long time. However, I am still enthusiastic,” Prabowo added.
