President Prabowo Subianto has called for the acceleration of the Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih development during a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday (7/4). This instruction signals the government’s push to complete the project, which targets not only infrastructure but also the strengthening of coastal communities’ capacities.

Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono stated that the initial phase of the Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih construction is underway and targeted for completion soon. “We have built 100 sites, 65 in phase one, 35 in phase two. And then the total of 100 is estimated to be finished by the end of May,” he said after the meeting.

However, the government is not stopping at physical construction. The management of the areas and the readiness of human resources were key points of discussion with the president.

“Then the staffing for the Fishermen’s Villages is also important. That was one of the things we discussed with Mr President,” he added.

This acceleration step also serves as an entry point for expanding the programme on a larger scale. The government is preparing follow-up construction of 1,000 fishermen’s villages in 2026, to be carried out in parallel, with a focus on eastern Indonesia.

“The next thousand in 2026 will be worked on in parallel and the focus is on eastern Indonesia,” Trenggono revealed.

On the other hand, the government is also studying cooperation on ship procurement with foreign parties, including the UK. The process is still in the analysis stage, particularly regarding the readiness of domestic shipyards.

“We are preparing everything, such as how many shipyards there are in Indonesia, which ones are capable, which ones are suitable. We are analysing all that together. Hopefully, it can be done quickly soon. Because the target is that it must be ready in two years,” he explained.

The Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih (KNMP) programme is claimed to be able to increase fishermen’s productivity and income by up to 75%, as well as open new job opportunities in coastal areas of Papua.

KNMP in Plengsengan Ancol not only functions as a fisheries production centre but is also designed as a thematic tourism destination.

Phase 1 construction of KNMP since 2025 has been completed with facilities including ice factories, frozen warehouses, fishermen’s halls, and ship workshops to support fishermen’s welfare.

President Prabowo Subianto is accelerating the Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih development, with phase one progress at 50%.

Minister KKP Sakti Wahyu Trenggono targets the construction of 1,000 Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih in 2026. See the results of his working visit to Kebumen and Purworejo.

The presence of electricity not only meets basic needs but also ignites new spirit among residents to rise again after being affected by tidal flood disasters.

Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono conducted a working visit to Natuna Regency on Tuesday (26/8).
