Prabowo Requests Acceleration of 100 Gigawatt Solar Power Plant Development
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has requested the acceleration of the development of solar power plants (PLTS) up to 100 gigawatts. This was stated following a limited meeting at the State Palace on Tuesday (21/4/2026). Brian stated that the meeting discussed the evaluation of several programmes, particularly the 100 Gigawatt PLTS programme. The meeting was also attended by CEO of BPI Danantara Rosan Roeslani. “The President inquired about the progress and requested that it be accelerated, especially for the diesel ones, so from the results of the meeting that has been conducted between Danantara and PLN,” said Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto to reporters on Tuesday (21/4/2026). Brian explained that the capacity of power plants using diesel energy is targeted to be reduced by up to 10 gigawatts. On the other hand, the government is targeting the achievement of an addition of 17 gigawatts of green energy from PLTS. “It is targeted that this year the 10 gigawatts of diesel can be reduced, then the others added approximately up to 7 gigawatts,” he said. “So for now, from the calculations together with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, PLN, Danantara, and also some university experts, approximately 17 gigawatts can be installed for PLTS,” he said. Regarding the technical implementation and determination of PLTS development locations, Brian asked to inquire about that with PLN. “The locations will all be from PLN as the implementer of the programme,” he said.
