Prabowo Reported to Close 35th NU Congress in Jombang

President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to close the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress at Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Tambakberas, Jombang, on Monday morning (31/8).

KH Abdurrozaq Sholeh, also known as Gus Rozaq, chairman of the Bahrul Ulum Pesantren Foundation and head of the local organising committee for the 35th NU Congress, said the closing ceremony is expected to take place at around 10:00 WIB in the multipurpose hall (GSG).

“The congress closing on 31 August at 10:00 WIB in the morning will be closed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia. The location is at the GSG (multipurpose hall),” Gus Rozaq said at Ndalem Kesepuhan Pesantren Tambakberas on Saturday evening (29/8).

Gus Rozaq said the news of Prabowo’s planned attendance at the closing of the 35th NU Congress had been confirmed by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

“It is confirmed, because Teddy sent the news via WhatsApp. We are trying to ensure the closing can take place before 10:00 WIB because the President wants to attend,” he said.

Gus Rozaq revealed that Prabowo was deeply impressed when he opened the deliberative forum on Thursday (27/8), after receiving an enthusiastic welcome from thousands of congress participants.

“Clearly he was very impressed with the welcome from the congress participants at the opening yesterday, which numbered tens of thousands and was truly very orderly,” he explained.

“The congress participants showed great respect to the President of the Republic of Indonesia. So he was very impressed with the welcome from the participants,” he added.
