President Prabowo Subianto has reminded his cabinet ministers ahead of Idul Fitri not to host excessively lavish open house celebrations during the Lebaran holiday.

The instruction was conveyed by Prabowo whilst chairing a Full Cabinet Session at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March 2026.

“We must also set an example with our open houses or whatever – they should not be too extravagant,” said Prabowo.

Prabowo pointed out that many citizens are still struggling following the impact of recent disasters. He then called on officials to set an example for the public.

However, Prabowo clarified that the instruction does not amount to a total ban on officials holding open houses, as this could negatively affect economic activity.

“Our brothers and sisters in disaster-affected areas – in this situation we must set an example for the people, but we should not go completely overboard. What I mean is, we should not shut down all events entirely, because otherwise our economy will not function,” he said.

To date, the government has not yet set a firm date for Idul Fitri 2026. Through a Joint Ministerial Decree concerning National Holidays and Joint Leave 2026, the government announced that the Lebaran holiday falls on 21 March 2026. However, an isbat (judicial confirmation) session is still required to officially determine the date of Idul Fitri 2026, or 1 Syawal 1447 Hijri.

Unlike the government, Muhammadiyah announced the Lebaran date earlier. Based on the Unified Global Hijri Calendar 1447 Hijri and information from the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership, Idul Fitri 1447 Hijri/2026 CE according to Muhammadiyah falls on 20 March 2026.
