Prabowo Remembers Try Sutrisno as Soldier and Leader Who Prioritised the Nation

Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto has remembered the late sixth Vice President of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, as a true soldier and principled leader who placed the nation above all else.

“I remember him as a true soldier and leader who was straightforward, resolute, and prioritised the nation above everything,” Prabowo said in a post on his official Instagram account (@prabowo).

Prabowo stated that Indonesia has lost one of its finest sons. The late vice president’s exemplary conduct, courage, and service to the nation will always serve as inspiration for all Indonesians.

President Prabowo served as Inspector of Ceremony during the military funeral procession for Try Sutrisno at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP) in Jakarta on Monday afternoon.

During the military funeral ceremony, the President delivered the formal proclamation:

“I, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the state, nation, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces, hereby present to the Mother Earth the soul, body, and service of the deceased. Name: Try Sutrisno; Position: Sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Term 1993–1998, Commander of ABRI Period 1988–1993. Son of Subandi, who passed away in service to the interests and dignity of the state and nation on Monday, 2 March 2026, at 06:58 WIB in Jakarta.”

Try Sutrisno, who served as the sixth Vice President under Indonesia’s second President Suharto, died whilst receiving treatment at the Armed Forces Central Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta on Monday morning. The late vice president was 90 years old.

Try Sutrisno was recognised as a military figure and statesman who served as Vice President of Indonesia during the 1993–1998 period. His passing adds to the list of national figures who have passed away in 2026 and serves as an opportunity for reflection on the contributions and service of national leaders to Indonesia.
