JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, is said to have again emphasized his commitment to Palestinian independence during a gathering of Islamic religious leaders at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

Moreover, Prabowo was reported to have stated that he is prepared to resign from the Board of Peace (BoP) if it no longer brings benefits to Palestine.

“On the BoP, he is determined to advance Palestinian independence. If indeed it is not for Palestine, he is prepared to resign,” said Cholil Nafis, Deputy General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), after the meeting at the Palace on Thursday night.

“He (Prabowo) is committed that everything done is for Palestine, for the independence of Palestine,” he added.

The Head of State merely stressed that the interests of Palestine are the primary consideration in Indonesia’s membership of the BoP.

“He promised that what is done is for Palestinian independence, for the interests of Palestine; if not for the interests of Palestine then he will resign,” Cholil noted.

Besides discussing the BoP, the meeting at the Istana on Thursday night also covered many other issues, including Indonesia’s condition and efforts to prosper the Indonesian people.

Cholil said the discussions also touched on the Middle East conflict following Israel and the United States (US) attack on Iran.

Amid the war situation, Prabowo is said to be determined to ensure food security and self-sufficiency domestically.

“To anticipate the effects of the war, as we discuss, on energy security, we are looking to strengthen internal capacity, and also food security and the economy so that more of it can flow down to the people. That was conveyed,” Cholil said.

Cholil also noted that President Prabowo asked the invited guests to give him the opportunity to work better.

“Yes, he feels proud that kiais have visited, feels supported, and he is grateful and asks for help, support to, give him the chance to work better for a more advanced Indonesia,” Cholil added.

“He has said that his entire life is dedicated to advancing Indonesia,” he concluded.
