Prabowo Recounts How the Head of BPKP, Visibly Shaken, Sought Permission to Investigate an Associate
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto recounted an incident where the Head of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPKP) came to him in a visibly shaken state, seeking permission to investigate an official suspected of corruption.
According to Prabowo, the Head of BPKP requested permission because the suspected official was known to be close to him.
“He came to me, a bit nervous. Because the person he was reporting on was known to be among those close to me,” Prabowo said in Nglundo Village, Sukomoro District, Nganjuk Regency, East Java, on Saturday (16 May 2026).
Despite the official being a close associate, Prabowo did not object to the investigation.
“Continue the investigation! There will be no interference. Whether they are Prabowo’s people or not, whether they are close to me or not, it doesn’t matter. If there are indications of wrongdoing, continue the investigation! In fact, those who have been given such a position of honour should be even more careful and vigilant,” he said.
Prabowo stated that there are still officials who, after being given authority and trust, feel they are above the law and believe they will not be caught.
He mentioned that the current development of digital technology makes various irregularities easier to detect.
Prabowo admitted that he is saddened to still receive reports of officials abusing their power and taking public funds.
He expressed concern that cases of corruption will have an impact on the families of the officials involved, especially their children and wives.
“I am saddened that, at the peak of their careers, the thing that saddens me most is what will happen to their children and wives. But I told the BPKP that once someone holds a state position, it means they have a responsibility to the state and the people. There is no exception,” he emphasized.
