Prabowo Receives TNI Report on Papua Electricity Programme and Bore Wells

President Prabowo Subianto received a progress report on several strategic military programmes, ranging from the provision of electricity in Papua, the construction of suspension bridges, to the supply of clean water access through bore wells in various regions. The information was conveyed via an official Instagram post by the Cabinet Secretariat following the Head of State’s meeting with TNI leadership at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (9/6). During the meeting, Prabowo received TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Deputy TNI Commander Tandyo Budi Revita, and the service chiefs of staff. The President was accompanied by Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Muhammad Herindra, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The Cabinet Secretariat stated that the TNI Commander and the chiefs of staff reported on the progress of various strategic programmes undertaken by the TNI. A number of these programmes are claimed to be related to equitable development and improving public welfare. One of the reported programmes is the development of the electricity grid in Papua, particularly in the mountainous regions. To date, the programme is said to have reached more than 200 villages. Additionally, the Army also reported on the progress of the Garuda Suspension Bridge construction, which connects villages across various parts of Indonesia. The number of bridge construction sites is reportedly approaching 2,000 locations. Another programme of note is the construction of bore wells and piping networks in areas experiencing limited access to clean water. According to the report received, as of June 2026 the number of clean water facility construction points has approached 2,000 locations and is claimed to have benefited around one million residents. Army Chief of Staff General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak also reported a number of other programmes aimed at improving the welfare of soldiers while supporting the implementation of the TNI’s main duties in various regions. ‘Through these various programmes, the TNI continues to contribute to strengthening equitable development, improving inter-regional connectivity, and helping to fulfil the basic needs of communities up to remote areas,’ wrote the Cabinet Secretariat in its post.
