Prabowo Receives South Korea's Highest Honour

President Prabowo Subianto received the highest honour from the South Korean government, The Grand Order of Mugunghwa, during his state visit to the country. The award was presented directly by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung at a friendship event in Sangchungjae, within the Cheong Wa Dae complex, on Wednesday (1/4).

The conferment marks Seoul’s recognition of Jakarta’s role in strengthening bilateral relations. The South Korean government views Prabowo’s contributions as influential in promoting the elevation of ties between the two nations to a special comprehensive strategic partnership.

The Grand Order of Mugunghwa is South Korea’s highest national award, usually given to the president of that country and their spouse, as well as heads of state or former heads of state from friendly nations.

The award is granted to figures deemed to have made significant contributions to the development and security of South Korea.

The honour received by Prabowo consists of several honorary attributes, from a badge, collar, star brooch, to a lapel pin, made from precious metals and adorned with gemstones.

Since its introduction in 1949, this award has been given to more than 100 world figures. Some names that have received it include South Korea’s first president Syngman Rhee, King Hussein of Jordan, Queen Elizabeth II, Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, President Emmanuel Macron, and King Willem-Alexander.

The commitment to enhancing relations was actually agreed upon in previous meetings. However, this visit is seen as a momentum to realise it concretely.

President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, in the Republic of Korea, at Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House), on Wednesday (1/4).

President Prabowo arrived in Seoul for his first state visit to South Korea. The main agenda is to meet President Lee Jae Myung at the Blue House to discuss cooperation in AI, nuclear energy, and defence.
