Prabowo Receives Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister

President Prabowo Subianto received the visit of Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday, 1 June. The meeting was part of efforts by both nations to further strengthen their bilateral relations. According to a press release from the Presidential Office, Sheikh Saoud was warmly welcomed by Prabowo. The meeting served as a platform to enhance communication and cooperation between Indonesia and Qatar across various strategic sectors. During the meeting, Sheikh Saoud conveyed a special message from Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to Prabowo. The head of state welcomed the message and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening friendship and cooperation with Qatar. In addition to discussing bilateral relations, the meeting highlighted follow-up steps on previously agreed cooperation. A key foundation of this partnership is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Strategic Dialogue between the Indonesian and Qatari governments, witnessed by President Prabowo and the Emir of Qatar in April 2025. Through this strategic dialogue, Indonesia and Qatar aim to foster closer collaboration in key sectors. The scope of cooperation includes regional and international political issues, defence and security, counter-terrorism, trade and investment, cultural exchange, and strengthening people-to-people ties between the two nations. The meeting between Prabowo and Sheikh Saoud also reflected a shared commitment to further enhance the quality of their bilateral relations, which have been progressing well. The discussions were constructive, conducted with mutual respect and understanding. The visit forms part of ongoing efforts by Indonesia and Qatar to strengthen their strategic partnership. Closer cooperation is expected to benefit both nations and contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
