President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, 15 June 2026. The meeting discussed strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar, including investment cooperation.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that Qatar affirmed its commitment to continue bolstering investment in Indonesia. According to Teddy, the Qatari government conveyed an investment commitment worth US$4 billion, as well as opening opportunities for expanding investment in various other sectors.

Teddy claimed this investment commitment reflects Qatar’s confidence in Indonesia’s economic prospects. “It is also part of both countries’ efforts to expand a mutually beneficial partnership,” he said in a written statement.

According to Teddy, Sultan bin Saad also conveyed greetings from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to Prabowo. “The Emir of Qatar also expressed appreciation for President Prabowo’s leadership and Indonesia’s economic progress, particularly support for health, education, and nutritious meal programmes,” he said.

Prior to meeting the Qatari Foreign Minister, Prabowo had earlier received a visit from Qatar’s Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. Sheikh Saoud, who also serves as Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister, visited the Palace on Monday, 1 June 2026.

During that meeting, the two leaders also discussed a number of issues, particularly regarding Indonesia-Qatar cooperation in various sectors. Previously, in April 2025, President Prabowo and the Emir of Qatar witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) titled “Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Dialogue between the Government of Indonesia and the Government of the State of Qatar.”

This dialogue aims to encourage more intensive cooperation in various fields, including politics on international and regional issues, defence and security, counter-terrorism, the economy—especially trade and investment—cultural exchange, and strengthening people-to-people relations.
