Prabowo Receives Former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra, Here's What Was Discussed

President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his family. What was discussed at the meeting?

The meeting was posted on the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram account on Wednesday evening (8/7/2026). Also in attendance was Thaksin’s daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who herself served as Prime Minister of Thailand from 2024 to 2025.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the meeting was a moment to strengthen the friendship between the two men. They exchanged views on regional and global issues.

“The meeting, which was warm and full of camaraderie, became a momentum to strengthen a friendship that has long been established. In a relaxed atmosphere, the President and Thaksin also exchanged views on various strategic global developments and regional dynamics,” Teddy wrote.

It is worth noting that Thaksin led Thailand from 2001 to 2006. He now also contributes to Indonesia as a member of the Danantara Advisory Council.

Teddy emphasised that Prabowo always keeps communication open with world leaders. This is part of efforts to broaden cooperation and Indonesia’s position on the global stage.

“Through meetings such as this, the Indonesian Government continues to strengthen its network of friendship and communication with world leaders and prominent figures as part of efforts to expand cooperation and fortify Indonesia’s position amid global dynamics,” Teddy said.
