Prabowo Ready to Travel to Tehran as Mediator Between Iran and the United States
President Prabowo Subianto is prepared to travel to Tehran to serve as a peacemaker between Iran and the United States. This readiness was announced by the Foreign Ministry just hours after Israel and the United States launched fresh attacks on Iran’s capital.
In a written statement from the Foreign Ministry, Indonesia offered itself as a facilitator for dialogue amongst the conflicting parties. “Should both parties agree, the President of Indonesia is willing to depart for Tehran to conduct mediation,” the statement read on Saturday, 28 February 2026.
Indonesia expressed regret over the failure of negotiations between the United States and Iran, which resulted in the renewed outbreak of armed conflict. The Foreign Ministry also called on all parties involved to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue and diplomacy.
“The Indonesian Government, through the President of the Republic of Indonesia, has conveyed its readiness to facilitate dialogue to restore conducive security conditions,” the Foreign Ministry statement read.
In the same release, Indonesia reiterated the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation. The Foreign Ministry called for all differences to be resolved through peaceful means.
Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation had previously announced that the country’s entire airspace had been closed until further notice since Saturday, 28 February 2026. This action followed Israeli strikes against Iran. Several explosions were heard in Iran’s capital, Tehran, with thick smoke visible rising from various parts of the city.
A US official told Al Jazeera that the attacks on Iran were conducted as a joint military operation between the United States and Israel. He added that the joint US-Israeli air strikes aimed to disable Iran’s security apparatus.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that it had launched missiles and drones towards Israel following the joint US-Israeli attack on Saturday, 28 February 2026. “In response to the hostile, criminal aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran by the enemy, the first wave of a large-scale missile and drone strikes by the Islamic Republic of Iran against occupied territories has begun.”
