Prabowo Ready to Travel to Iran as Mediator, JK Issues Warning
An initiative has emerged for President Prabowo Subianto to become a peacemaker following the attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran. Tenth and twelfth Vice-President Jusuf Kalla warned that the current conflict presents far greater complications.
“The intention and plan are good, but this is a situation with much greater problems. Even the Israel-Palestine issue cannot be resolved easily. The world is heavily determined by America’s nature,” Kalla told journalists in South Jakarta on Sunday (1 March 2026).
Kalla then highlighted an Indonesian government agreement with the United States that he believes is disadvantageous to Indonesia. According to Kalla, Indonesia is in an unequal position relative to the United States.
“Unfortunately, Indonesia has entered into an unbalanced agreement that is extremely detrimental to Indonesia. We are not equal to America. How can we reconcile parties that are not equal in negotiating circumstances such as this?” he said.
Further, Kalla warned of the consequences of Middle Eastern conflict on Indonesia. One concern is rising oil prices.
“Yes, first of course oil prices will rise. That will definitely happen first. Logistics between the Middle East and us will be completely disrupted,” he stated.
“Our exports to Europe will certainly face problems because all this creates fear, everyone is preparing. The problem is that we usually import oil from the Middle East because we have a shortage, now it will certainly stop. So our economy will be hit there. Be careful if this lasts for a long time. Hopefully it ends quickly,” he added.
Previously, Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that President Prabowo is ready to serve as a mediator between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Prabowo is reported to be ready to travel to Teheran if the relevant countries permit.
“The Government of Indonesia, in this case the President of the Republic of Indonesia, conveys its readiness to facilitate dialogue to restore conducive security conditions, and if approved by both parties, the Indonesian President is willing to travel to Teheran to conduct mediation,” the ministry stated.
