President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening relations between Indonesia and South Korea. Prabowo then quoted the South Korean proverb ‘Hamkke Gamyeon Meolli Ganda’, which means that if one travels together, one will go far together.

This was stated by Prabowo at a state luncheon with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung at the Presidential Palace of the Republic of Korea, Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House), on Wednesday (1/4/2026). Prabowo initially expressed that he felt honoured to be hosted by President Lee Jae Myung.

“Your Excellency President Lee Jae Myung, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen. Annyeong haseyo. It is a great honour for me to be here after the very productive discussions and results we have achieved today,” he said.

Prabowo then highlighted the enhancement of bilateral relations to a special comprehensive strategic partnership, which he regarded as an important milestone. He stated that this achievement reflects the trust and shared vision between Indonesia and South Korea.

“I am confident that these milestones will provide tangible and sustainable benefits for our societies, while further strengthening the bonds that unite us. We have many similarities in history and shared interests,” he said.

Prabowo also praised South Korea’s rapid progress in industry, science, and technology. According to him, these achievements serve as both inspiration and opportunities to strengthen complementary collaborations, considering Indonesia’s vast resources.

“Both our countries had to fight very hard for independence. The Republic of Korea has succeeded in becoming a highly advanced industrial nation. We admire your achievements. We admire your discipline, hard work, and spirit to always overcome various challenges,” he said.

Prabowo then quoted a Korean proverb in his speech, meaning that if one walks together, one will go further. This embodies the spirit in building long-term cooperation that not only benefits the present but also future generations.

“I understand there is a highly valued Korean proverb that goes: Hamkke gamyeon meolli ganda. If we walk together, we will go far,” he said.

“In this spirit, what we do today, what we achieve today, and what we strive for today will benefit the future generations of both our countries,” he continued.

At the end of his speech, Prabowo invited all attendees to raise their glasses as a symbol of the increasingly close friendship between Indonesia and South Korea.

“Allow me to invite Your Excellency, distinguished guests, and colleagues to stand and raise our glasses together, for the enduring friendship and ever-closer ties between Indonesia and the Republic of Korea. A friendship that will withstand the test of time and remain strong amid evolving global dynamics. Kamsahamnida,” he said.
