Prabowo Quotes 'Grandfather of Capitalism': Economy Supported by Nationalism

President Prabowo Subianto has asked all parties to maintain the spirit of nationalism in order to promote economic growth.

He conveyed this during the handover of Rp11.4 trillion from the collection of administrative forestry fines by the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force (PKH) at the Attorney General’s Office on Friday (10/4).

In his speech, Prabowo quoted a sentence from ‘The Spirit of Capitalism’ written by Max Weber.

“He said that the sustained growth characteristic of the modern economy is not self-sustained. So the characteristic of the modern economy does not run by itself, not self-sustained,” said Prabowo.

“Growth, stimulated and sustained by nationalism. Growth is stimulated and maintained by nationalism. This is the grandfather of capitalism, the teacher of capitalism teaching like that,” he continued.

On that basis, said Prabowo, Indonesia as a fighting nation must continue to maintain the spirit of nationalism.

“As a fighting nation that gained independence with blood, sweat, and tears, how can we not maintain our spirit of nationalism,” he stated.

Prabowo invited his ranks to side with the group that fights for justice and the interests of the Indonesian people rather than with corruptors and manipulators.

“We must choose which side we are on, on the side that is right, on the straight side, on the fair side, on the side of the Indonesian people. Or on the side of corruptors, on the side of manipulators, on the side of deceivers, on the side of smugglers, on the side of those who dare to mock the Unitary Republic of Indonesia,” he said.

“There is already a Supreme Court decision, which has not been executed for more than ten years, there is already a permit revoked by the Republic of Indonesia government for 8 years, that businessman keeps operating, he carries out mining without permission, he mocks the RI, he spits on the sacrifices of those who fell for Indonesia’s independence, he does not respect the Unitary Republic of Indonesia,” he added.

Prabowo also ordered Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin to enforce the law and not hesitate to prosecute parties who violate it.

“I order the Attorney General, enforce the law, if he does not want to cooperate, prosecute him, we do not hesitate and we do not fear,” he concluded.
