Prabowo Questions Whether US Strikes Can Topple Iranian Government
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has stated that he is quite surprised by the US-Israel conflict in Iran, saying he sees no “rationality” in the military campaign.
Prabowo made these remarks during a recent interview with Bloomberg.
“We are all confused,” said the 74-year-old president, regarding the conflict. “And I am saddened. I feel there is no rationality in this.”
Prabowo also questioned whether the US strategy of bombing Iran would be capable of leading to regime change.
“It is very difficult to conduct such operations from the air alone,” he said.
He added that indiscriminate bombing would be needed to achieve their objectives.
Prabowo revealed that Iran recently told him that they are cautious about entering into new negotiations with the US to stop the war. This is not without reason, as they feel they have essentially been deceived twice. In asymmetric warfare, he added, Iran truly only has to survive.
Prabowo, a former military officer who has seen combat, said he cannot predict how long the war will last. He added that all parties must be willing to engage in order for mediation to help end the conflict.
Prabowo has offered himself as a mediator in the US-Iran conflict. However, to date, there has been no agreement from both warring parties.
